The Police Commissioner of Hampshire, Simon Hayes, has said that Muslim girls as young as five are expressing interest in becoming "jihadi brides" in schools in Portsmouth.

According to The Daily Star, the Commissioner's remarks have been criticized by the city council.

Earlier this week, a row broke out after Hayes criticized the authority's work in the wake of young men from Portsmouth travelling to fight in Syria with Islamic extremist groups.

Hayes said that young girls wanting to become jihadi brides was a problem that needed to be dealt with.
