Ping signals from the black box data recorders of AirAsia flight QZ8501 have been detected by a ship, a senior Indonesia search official has said.
According to News.com.au, S.B Supriyadi, who is stationed at the search headquarters of Pangkalan Bun said that the drivers are trying to reach the location.
He said that the ping signals is likely near the same location where the aircraft's tail was found yesterday.
Finding this part of the wreckage had been a priority as it houses the black box recorders, which are crucial to determining the cause of a crash.
The black box provides crucial information including the plane's vertical and horizontal speeds, the engine temperature and final conversations between the captain and co-pilot.
The pinger battery is likely to exhaust in the next 20 days.
Indonesian survey ship had detected the crucial debris of the plane around nine kilometres from where the flight lost contact.
