A Pakistani court has sentenced a UK origin self-proclaimed prophet to death after convicting him of blasphemy.

A 65-year-old British national, Mohammad Asghar, was also fined of INR one million by the Rawalpindi court, Dawn News reports.

Asghar was arrested and booked under section 295-C of the PPC in Sadiqabad in 2010 after he wrote letters to different people, including a police officer, claiming that he was a prophet.

Earlier, the defence lawyer contended that since Asghar was suffering from mental disorder, his case should be treated on humanitarian grounds.

The court constituted a medical board to verify this, but the report showed that Asghar was psychologically stable and did not suffer from any disorder.
