The head of Karachi's anti-terror operations Chaudhay Aslam and two others reportedly died in a bomb attack carried out by the Taliban.

Aslam had been actively tracking down Taliban militants and was on the hit list of the militant group for long.

The Taliban militants have openly claimed responsibility for Thursday's attack.

According to the BBC, Aslam had been targeted for killing and torturing wounded Taliban members.

Aslam's convoy was attacked by a car planted with explosives, destroying a number of vehicles and damaging nearby buildings.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack, saying that the will of the nation will not be crushed by such cowardly attacks.

It is alleged that the police chief captured militants and staged fake encounters. However, Aslam was given a clean chit following an internal police inquiry.
