The market started on a cautious note on Tuesday tracking the trend in other Asian markets. The Sensex opened with a fall of 16.03 points trading at 27348.89. Nifty on the other hand declined 5.95 points trading at 8269.10.
The fall in the index was led by losses in shares such as HDFC, ICICI Bank, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, and ITC.
The shares of Gati slipped over five percent while that of SKS Micro Finance surged over four percent after impressive Q2 numbers.
The Indian rupee depreciated 15 paise to 64.95 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday. This was a result of the currency markets across the globe as US Federal Reserve speech by chair Janet Yellen is awaited.
