World No. 1 Serena Williams beat American teen Taylor Townsend 6-3, 6-1 on Tuesday night in straight sets in round one of US open.
According to ABC News, Williams made only eight unforced errors and needed less than an hour to get past Townsend, an 18-year-old who is ranked 103rd and was given a wild card into the draw.
The tennis ace is on the quest to become the first woman to win the US open three years in a row, following in the footsteps of Chris Evert, who took four straight trophies from 1975-78.
Williams, who has a collection of 17 Grand Slam singles titles, has won the tournament five times till now.
