American tennis star Serena Williams has joined the tributes coming from Wimbledon to ailing former South Africa president Nelson Mandela, saying that it was one the greatest moments of her life when she met the anti-apartheid icon.
Describing Mandela, who is critically ill in a Pretoria hospital, as an 'amazing' man from whom lessons can be learned, the World No.1 said that meeting Mandela was one of the best moments of her life, Sport24 reports.
According to Williams, Mandela had lived a 'really amazing life' and has had a great story, adding that she believes that people from all races and nations can learn from his 'stellar' life.
Stating that she started reading Mandela's acclaimed autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, after returning from South Africa on her most recent visit last year, Williams further said that for someone to have been incarcerated for so long and still have a forgiving heart, open spirit and open soul is rare and unheard of.
Williams also said that everyone can learn from the courage, the faith, and every quality that Mandela had shown in his life.
