Sex workers in Kolkata took to the streets on Saturday pressing their demands of security and social status for their community.

Members of the largest sex workers organization, the Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC), along with members of All India Network of Sex Workers raised their voices demanding equal rights and status in the society.

These sex workers from Sonagachi demanded the legalization of the world's oldest profession.

A sex worker, Seema, said that legalisation could help bring prostitutes into the mainstream and help them fight poverty and discrimination.

"We are doing this rally because the security that we should get we did not get. The dream of the women police commissioner to provide us security will be fulfilled soon as the talks for the same are on," she said.
