Teen couples face the risk of being prosecuted under child sex laws if they exchange selfie sex texts with each other.
According to police, though the legal age to have sex is 16 years, exchanging explicit pictures by under-18 youngsters could be considered as crime and those over the age of 10 could even face prosecution, the BBC reported.
Det Sgt Jan Rusdale, from Nottinghamshire Police's sexual exploitation investigation unit, said that she didn't know that it was an offence until she joined the unit recently.
However, she highlighted that if there are prosecuted, it could lead to a conviction which would then make them eligible to be registered on the sex offenders register for at least two years.
