Public security, maritime, environmental protection, urban management and other relevant department officials in China's Suzhou Province have detained eight vessels and their personnel for reportedly dumping over 4000 tons of contruction garbage in the region.
Police in Suzhou were quoted by the People's Daily, as saying that this discarded construction pile was ferried in secretly and deposited on Taihu Xishan Island.
Investigations have revealed that the eight tarpaulin-covered vessels were spotted in Jiangdong Village, and after receiving a tip-off, concerned departments and officials visited the site and issued detention orders after due process and verification.
The junk boats were said to be from Shanghai's Jiading district and their owner said that the plan was for several trucks to come to transfer the waste to a nearby construction company.
The case is still under investigation.
