Russia fourth seed Maria Sharapova has reached the ATP and WTA Miami Masters semi-finals in the Sony Open on Tuesday following a 90-minute victory over Czech eighth seed Petra Kvitova.
Sharapova's 7-5, 6-1 win over Kvitova, a fellow Wimbledon champion, was a relief for five-time Miami finalist, who had faced huge battle in her previous two victories.
According to Sport24, the four-time Grand Slam champion broke four times as she was untroubled by Kvitova after the early stages, in which she lost the opening game but got the break back midway through the set.
Meanwhile, top seed Serena Williams faced a quarter-final test later against German fifth seed Angelique Kerber, the report added.
