Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's statement about making a "new beginning" with India, which has been welcomed by the Indian Government, was actually made before he became Prime Minister.

Sharif made those remarks about "new beginning" during an interview with Karan Thapar on his programme "Devil's Advocate" before the results of the general elections held in Pakistan were announced.

According to a report, Pakistan's Express News ran footage of Thapar's interview with Sharif of May 6, 2013 last night (August 12).

The state-run APP news agency thought it was a new statement and put out a report on Sharif's remarks, and other news wires followed suit today.
