A Championship footballer for Sheffield Wednesday, known to his fans as 'Goal Machine' is to be sacked by the club after being jailed for drunken violence.

According to the Mirror, Gary Madine, 23, has been jailed for 18 months after he was found guilty of punching two men in separate nightclub attacks.

Madine, who has a previous conviction for knocking a man out in a Carlisle pub, punched Wednesday fan Daniel Beresford in the Paris Bar in Sheffield city centre in February last year, breaking his nose, the report said.

Four weeks later, he punched bricklayer and Sheffield United fan Reece Hall in the city's Viper Room club, shattering his cheekbone, the report added.

He was jailed at Leeds Crown Court after being found guilty by a jury following a weeklong trial last month, the report further said.

Prosecutors told the jury that Madine, who has been training with Carlisle United, turned into 'an arrogant, violent thug' when drunk.
