Shimla celebrates 150 years as ex-Indian summer capital with classical dance festival

Artistes enthralled the audience with their stellar performances at a dance festival organised here with the aim of keeping alive the rich culture of Indian classical music.

The four-day event was organised jointly by the Language Art and Culture Department, the Tourism Department of Himachal Pradesh and Music and Drama Academy of New Delhi here.

On Thursday, the Secretary of New Delhi Music and Drama academy, Henal Aacharya, said,"This event will be very successful as people have a great amount of zeal for this festival and through this, the culture of traditional dance form will be ingrained among the people and this is an opportunity and an important opportunity for artistes belonging to Himachal Pradesh to learn more."

 

Tourists from across the globe gathered to take a glimpse of the traditional Indian classical dance and music which enchanted the audience.

An artist, N K Nayar, said, "We perform so as to strengthen the cultural diversity of India, because in today's century, when so much is happening around us, there is a need to perform traditional music and dance and various other forms of art to make people aware and to secure the culture of the country."

The event was organised to celebrate 150 years of Shimla as the former summer capital of India.
