Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday backed Rahul Gandhi to be the prime ministerial candidate of the Congress Party.

Earlier, Congress party president Sonia Gandhi had said that party would declare its PM candidate at an appropriate time - most likely after party's highest body meeting on January 17.

While addressing a news conference in New Delhi on Friday,Shinde extended his support to Gandhi.

"I had told during the Jaipur session also that Rahul Gandhi should become the Prime Minister. The whole nation, our party wants that Rahul should become the PM. There is no second opinion to it," said Shinde.

Meanwhile, commenting on the mysterious emergence of a video showing a man carrying a cut-off human head suggesting it to be soldier Lance Naik Hemraj, who was beheaded by Pakistani soldiers at Indo-Pak border in 2013, Shinde said that such incidents do not take place any more.

"Two or three incidents have taken place at the border including the Hemraj incident and there was retaliation by our people as well. So, it is an old issue and there have been no incidents there recently," added Shinde.
