The Shiv Sena on Thursday called for an investigation into alleged harassment charges levelled against Union Minister MJ Akbar.
Shiv Sena leader Manisha Kayande , while speaking with ANI, said that the Union Minister should resign until a verdict on the issue is pronounced.
"The allegation has been levelled by half a dozen female journalists. This should be taken very seriously. Such allegations are very serious. If BJP believes in transparency then there should be an investigation. I think he should resign and face the enquiry and after the enquiry, the party can take up a call," Kayande said.
She also praised the MeToo campaign and said the campaign has encouraged women to speak up.
"I think the MeToo campaign has gained momentum and many things can come out. I strongly believe that many times people are mocking those who are raising their voices but their concerns were not heard or addressed at the right time. Many women did go to the police station or may have complained at the right forum also but they were not heard. This has given them a boost up, the women have gained a morale boost. This is a highly charged emotional agitation which was very much needed. Justice can be done even after 10 years," she added.
Akbar has come under fire after a woman journalist Priya Ramani claimed on Twitter that in the article which she had written for Vogue India in 2017 about her gut-wrenching incident of sexual misconduct was to expose MJ Akbar.
