Bollywood cult classic Sholay is set to release in Pakistan almost 40 years after it was released in India, a report said.

The film is being brought to Pakistan by Mandviwalla Entertainment and will be released in 2D and 3D, reported the Dawn.

Terming the film "one of the most unique films of all time," Nadeem Mandviwalla, owner and managing director of Mandviwalla Entertainment, said that the classic was never released in the country and many people have been deprived of the experience of watching it in a cinema and therefore, the audience will come to watch it, if given the chance.

However, he added that the film will not have a wide release and will be shown at more cinemas but less shows.

The tentative date of the film's release is March 20, Mandviwalla added.

The film is an action adventure and revolves around two petty thieves hired by a former police officer to take revenge from a callous bandit. The star cast includes, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri among other Bollywood greats.

It screened for five years at a landmark Mumbai theatre, marking the "longest ever run in India at the time," after it was released.
