Officials of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed shops in Defence Colony area on Friday, stating first and ground floors, which were meant for residential purposes, were being used as commercial activities.
However, the distressed shop owners cried foul and said they were not given a notice by the authorities.
"We received calls that all restaurants in Defence Colony are being closed. On reaching here, the authorities were already inside. There was no notice given, our employees were abused as well. My only question is why our shop is being sealed?" said an owner of a restaurant.
Another shop owner said they tried to show the documents to the authorities, but all in vain.
"We are are sitting in a commercial authorized market. These shops have been occupied since 1952 and there is no illegal construction here," said a local shop owner.
Reportedly, over 20 shops have been sealed as of now.
