A South African judge has cleared British businessman Shrien Dewani of murdering his wife Anni Hindocha during their honeymoon, after the judge threw out the case.

Judge Jeanette Traverso said that the evidence provided by the prosecution fell "far below the threshold". The evidence of the prosecution's main witness was filled with contradictions, added Traverso.

Anni's family is extremely disappointed as her sister Ami Denborg said that they felt that the system of justice had failed them, reported the BBC.

It is believed that Dewani left the court without making any comment through a side entrance.

Dewani has always denied charges of plotting a murder conspiracy against his wife who was shot dead in the back of a taxi after the couple was hijacked in South Africa.
