Former information and technology minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court's judgement on striking down Section 66A of the IT Act.

"I do not think a law was brought in by UPA, NDA was supporting it too. However, we shouldn't bring politics into it. A law can be misused, and that's when it becomes an issue. The Supreme Court's judgement should be welcomed," said Sibal.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court struck down Section 66A of the IT Act, terming it 'unconstitutional'.

According to reports, the apex court ruled that the section falls outside Article 19(2), which relates to Freedom of Speech, and thus has to be struck down in its entirety.
