Troubled football legend Paul Gascoigne had been reportedly rushed to a hospital on Monday night following reports of him being 'drunk and sick' before collapsing outside a hotel.

According to the Mirror, an eyewitness, who saw the former Tottenham Hotspur ace slumped on the ground, said that Gascoigne, who had a stick or a crutch, looked an old, ill and a 'disabled' person.

Another person wrote on Twitter that he had seen Gascoigne 'very sick and drunk' before getting into a taxi.

Agreeing with the account, staff at the Royal National Hotel in Central London said that Gascoigne had collapsed in the courtyard of the hotel even though he was not staying there.

Meanwhile, the former England footballer's family had claimed that they had no idea about the incident, with his nephew saying that the collapsing of Gascoigne was news for them, adding that he hoped the best for his uncle.

Other witnesses used Twitter to message Gascoigne's celebrity friends.

Former England cricketer Ronnie Irani, who helped fund Gascoigne's 100,000 pound-trip to an US rehabilitation centre, said that the football icon is still loved as can be seen from the numerous goodwill messages, adding that his destiny is in his own hands.
