Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Siddharth Nath Singh on Monday urged the Trinamool Congress (TMC) not to interfere in democratic processes with regard to the ongoing protests at the Film and Television Institute of India.
"If the TMC has sent their team there, I think the TMC has to answer several other questions, including one on cultural and also on the educational side that has been happening in Bengal. Recently, there has been an anarchist approach to the Jadavpur University students protest. Students were beaten up by the police," said Nath
"I think Mamata Banerjee and the TMC must answer whether they would undemocratically allow students to stay illegally since 2008 in the FTII hostels, or would they allow a democratic process where the students do need to complete their course within the two years time frame," he added.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee earlier had announced that she would send a three-member delegation consisting Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O'Brien and Satabdi Roy to visit the FTII.
The protesting FTII students have questioned the procedure of selection of the chairperson, Gajendra Chauhan and five other members.
