The American Gurdwara Parbandhak Commiteee (AGPC) celebrated the Gurpurab of Tenth Sikh Master Guru Gobind Singh today with religious fervor and devotion.

Religious functions and processions were organized at the Gurudwara Sahib Freemont and at the Sikh Sabha Gurdwara Millipetus.

Recently appointed American Sikh Congressional Caucus Co-Chair David Valadao was a special guest at the event, and promised to take up issues related to the Sikh community.

AGPC President Jaswant Singh Hothi and Coordinator Dr.Pritpal Singh congratulated the Sikh panth on the occasion. Both leaders asked community members to live the life of universal brotherhood and peace as per the Guru's teachings.

They said Guru Gobind Singh fought for the protection of human rights and worked for the upliftment of the downtrodden and those less fortunate.

Talking to ANI from San Francisco, they, along with other office bearers of the AGPC, welcomed and honoured Valadao for his contribution to resolve Sikh matters.

Valadao stated that they were taking up issues of recruitment of Sikhs in the U.S. armed forces, maintainence of separate records of Sikhs in the U.S. Census, the stopping of hate crimes against Sikhs and recording of hate crime incidents separately, and establishing a distinction between these and other crimes in police agency records.

"We are committed to resolve all the issues being faced by the community. The Sikhs are part and parcel of U.S. society, and we want them to be safe and secure, and resolve their matters relating recruitments and discrimination," said Valadao. (ANI)
