A Sikh woman pilgrim from Punjab's Hoshiarpur district has reportedly married a Lahore-based Pakistani and has converted into Islam.

She had gone to attend the Baisakhi festival there as part of a Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Sikh delegation.

Kiran Bala, daughter of Manohar Lal, has written to Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), requesting the authorities to extend her visa so that she can stay in Pakistan, reported The Express Tribune.

According to the report, Kiran Bala maintains that she has married a man named Mohammad Azam, a resident of Lahore, during a ceremony held at Jamia Naeemia seminary in Lahore on April 16, at her own will and has taken a new name Amna Bibi.

Her father-in-law, former granthi (Sikh priest) Tarsem Singh, has appealed to foreign minister Sushma Swaraj to help him bring Kiran back.

"My daughter-in-law called and said that she has converted to Islam & got re-married in Pakistan. I want to request the Prime Minister, CM of Punjab to take her out of this situation. I suspect she might have fallen into the hands of ISI (Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence)," Tarsem Singh told ANI.
