Sindhu advances, Pronnoy bows out of Singapore Open

Indian ace shuttler P.V Sindhu advanced to the second round of the Singapore Open after battling past Thailand's Busanan Ongbumrungphan in the women's singles event on Wednesday.

After suffering a first-game defeat, Sindhu staged a spirited fight back to secure a 9-21, 21-17, 21-11 win over her Thai compatriot in her opening round contest that lasted for 54 minutes.

In the men's singles event, H.S Prannoy suffered a major blow as he knocked out of the tournament after going down 21-18, 18-21, 19-21 at the hands of top-seed Chen Long of China.

Meanwhile, Ajay Jayaram also crashed out of the tournament after suffering 17-21, 16-21 defeat against German opponent Marc Zwiebler.
