Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu battled past former World Champion Ratchanok Intanon in thrilling three sets to reach the second round of the Korea Open Super Series tournament on Wednesday.
Sindhu, who is a two-time bronze medallist at World Championship, claimed a 21-19, 21-23, 21-13 win over third seed Intanon in a women's singles clash that lasted grueling one hour and nine minutes.
In the men's singles, commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap failed to cross the opening round hurdle as he went down 21-17, 16-21, 18-21 against Wei Nan of Hong Kong in a contest that lasted over an hour.
Meanwhile, Pradnya Gadre and Sikki Reddy have been crashed out of the tournament after suffering a 24-26, 9-21 loss to the Japanese pair of Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito in the women's doubles competition.
