Family members of Indian shuttler P.V Sindhu, who settled for a bronze after crashing out in the semi final match against Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon in the World Badminton Championships in Beijing, said they were delighted with her performance, but urged her to work towards rectifying her mistakes. They hoped she would perform well in the upcoming tournaments.
P.V Ramana, Sindhu's father, he was slightly disappointed with the game that she played today.
"She didn't play the attacking style well today, and I am sure, she will rectify her mistakes in the upcoming games. The way she was playing today, I am not happy, because she has to assess the opponent's capability," P.V Ramana told media here today.
Sindhu's mother, Vijaya, however, said she was very happy that her daughter won a bronze medal, but hoped that her coach Pullela Gopichand would help her rectify her mistakes for the upcoming tournaments.
"I am very happy that she won the bronze medal but, it would have been even better if she had won the gold. Her opponent is very senior, and I feel Sindhu needs a little more experience. We are looking forward to more such tournaments and I am sure she will perform very well," she said.
"Gopi Sir (Pullela Gopichand) has groomed Sindhu really well, and now, he will work towards rectifying her mistakes and more practice so that she performs even better in the upcoming tournaments," she added.
Meanwhile former badminton player Vimal Kumar congratulated Sindhu for winning a bronze medal, but added that she would need more practice to succeed in the coming matches.
"It is very creditable that she has reached the semi finals, but I thought she was not able to cope with the deceptive strokes of her opponent. If Sindhu wants to succeed against this girl, she really needs to cope with this style of badminton," Vimal Kumar said.
Indian shuttler P.V Sindhu crashed in the semi final match of the World Badminton Championship in Guangzhou.
In her semifinal match, Sindhu lost in straight sets to Ratchanok Intanon 21-10, 21-13.
The 18-year old made history on Friday by becoming first Indian woman to enter the World Badminton Championship semis.
Sindhu, who assured herself of a medal, beat China's Wang Shixian 21-18, 21-17 in the quarter-finals.
The only other women to have secured a medal at World Championships were Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa, who won the bronze at 2011 Championships at Wembley.
The last Indian to make the semis of World Badminton Championships was Prakash Padukone in 1983.
