Passengers aboard a Singapore Airlines flight plying between Singapore and Shanghai had an unpleasant surprise after the aircraft they were travelling in last Saturday, plunged 13,000 feet because of a loss of engine power when it hit stormy weather over the South China Sea.
The Independent quoted an airline spokesperson, as saying that both engines cut out around three-and-a-half hours into the flight, sending the plane into rapid descent from a height of 39,000 feet.
Flightradar24.com data showed that the plane dropped to an altitude of 26,000 feet before power could be restored, following which it disappeared from the website's tracker for more than 30-minutes due to a storm.
Flight SQ836, with 194 people on board, later climbed safely back to 31,200 feet, before landing safely in Shanghai around an hour and 40 minutes later.
