Inspector General of Forests, Ministry of Environment and Forests Dr SK Khanduri said that sustainability is not a choice but a priority and wildlife conservation is a part of the sustainable development.

Speaking at a three-days training workshop on "Social and Anthropological Dimensions in Wildlife Conservation" at Amity Institute of Wildlife Sciences, Khanduri emphasized the far-reaching repercussions like global warming and the green house effect of modifying the environment and destroying forests and wildlife.

He further added the basic objective of the workshop is to create awareness in society, orient the policy makers and educate the planners that they devise measures to protect and conserve the wildlife.

Also speaking at the event, Rahul Kaul, Senior Director, Wildlife Trust of India, said that both heavy human density and wildlife face a lot of challenges as they share the same resources that are finite in number. He also added the need for workshops to create awareness on the staple role of social and anthropological aspects for conservation of wildlife.
