Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith believes that the current squad has an excellent chance of becoming the new world champions.

Smith could reportedly become involved with South Africa in some sort of capacity as they gear up for next year's Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Smith, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, revealed that he could become involved with the team in some sort of capacity to provide input behind the scenes. It could be in the build-up to the World Cup or even during the tournament itself, Sport24 reported.

Smith said that he believes South Africa has an excellent chance to become the new world champions, adding that if he were them, then he would be very excited about the prospects of this World Cup.

Smith said that the top five batsmen are excellent and there's an excellent balance in the team, and added that they would also be very happy to play in Australia and New Zealand, where the conditions suit them much more.

The former skipper said that nowadays about 80 percent of all tournaments are played on the subcontinent and to be able to now play a World Cup tournament in more familiar conditions would suit South Africa.
