Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani released the Flash Statistics
The statistics are prepared annually by National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NEUPA).
They were presented to Irani by NEUPA Vice Chancellor Prof. R. Govind in the presence of Secretary (SEandL) R. Bhattacharya, Additional Secretary (EE) Vrinda Sarup and other senior officials of the ministry.
The statistics cover 1.45 million schools spread over 662 districts across all states and UTs.
The District Information System for Education (DISE) is a district based data base and gives information for school, block, district, State and national disaggregates.
The statistics also contain an Educational Development Index (EDI) based on four constituents of access, infrastructure, teachers and outcomes.
The state ranking-based on the EDI reveals that Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka are ranked in the first five.
The DISE 2013-14 data can be accessed at website www.dise.in.
