Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) will join the nation-wide cleanliness drive titled 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' on October 2 by hosting a performing-arts evening in the capital with focus on street theatre and puppetry.
Besides the two art forms, Akademi's Rabindra Bhavan premises will stage poetry reading, vocal recital and a flute concert besides an oath-taking ceremony. The items would be presented by SNA officials and outstation artistes.
Titled 'Puppets to Pull Strings for Clean India', the programme at Meghdoot Gallery on Gandhi Jayanti Day at 5 pm will primarily target children as the audience.
The slant is on folk culture and grassroots literature for easier and wider reach of the message of the Abhiyan that is being launched by the union government. On this occasion, SNA's staff will be felicitated as well.
The Akademi will host puppetry and theatre shows in other parts of the national capital region - by troupes such as Drishtantar and Sumukha.
SNA is also holding theatre and puppetry evenings on October 2 across the country in places such as Imphal, Kolkata, Agartala, Amritsar, Umaria, Sidhi, Allahabad, Karnal, Azamgarh, Mumbai, Bilaspur, Bhagalpur, Bhubaneswar, Varanasi, Dharwad, Ahmedabad, Mukteshwar, Lucknow, Guwahati, Dharmavaram, Bodoland Territorial Area Districts and Nalbari besides Jaipur.
