Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday expressed grief over the demise of veteran party leader Sheila Kaul.
"Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has expressed deep sadness at the passing away of veteran party leader Smt. Sheila Kaul. Extending her condolences to the friends and family of Smt. Kaul, Smt. Gandhi eulogised her role as an MP, Union Minister and Governor in public career extending over 5 decades," said a statement issued by the Congress office.
"Smt. Gandhi said that her absence will be felt by the Congress party for a long time to come," the statement added.
According to reports, Kaul was ill for a brief period before her death on Saturday night.
She was arguably the oldest surviving former Member of Parliament and got elected to the Lok Sabha for five terms.
