The Congress Parliamentary Board (CPB) re-elected Sonia Gandhi as its chairperson on Saturday evening.
Speaking shortly after her re-election, Gandhi urged the party's MPs to learn from their loss in the recently held general elections.
She said this was as good a time as any for all to sit together, remain united, and fight side by side for issues that were dear to the party and for the greater good of the nation and its citizens.
Television channels such as CNN-IBN quoted Gandhi, as saying that she was confident about the Congress Party performing as a strong and united opposition in Parliament, as also in its ability to raise issues of import to the nation.
She also congratulated Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi on his electoral victory.

She acknowledged that while the Congress had lost the 2014 general elections, it was not the first time, and added that the party knew how to make a come back after such losses.
During the meeting, the Congress Parliamentary Board expressed the hope that all progressive and secular forces would effectively coordinate in Parliament as a cohesive and united opposition.
The CPB also acknowledged the role played by outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in providing wise, sober and dignified leadership to the nation for a decade.
