South Indian actress Kalpana passes away in Hyderabad

Well known South Indian actress actress Kalpana Ranjani passed away this morning in Hyderabad following a heart attack. She was 51.

Kalpana was in Hyderabad to shoot for a Telugu film and was scheduled to leave for Kerala later today.

She was declared brought dead to the hospital at around 7 a.m.

Sister of actor Urvashi and Kalaranjini, Kalpana forayed into the Malayalam films as a child actor in "Vidarunne Mottukul" in 1977. During her career, she appeared in 300 films including recent superhit "Charlie". She was a National award recipient as the best supporting actress for her performance in the 2012 film "Thanichala Njan".

 

Among her other Malayalam hits are "Ennum Eppuzhum", "Karnavar", "Dolfins", "Bangalore Days" and "Spirit". "Kakki Sattai", "Idhaya Thiruda", "Sathi Leelavathi" and "Chinna Veedu" are among her Tamil films.

The actress is survived by her daughter and her last rites are expected to be performed later today or tomorrow.
