The daughter of a South Korean national airline's boss has been imprisoned for a period of one year for hampering aviation safety as she forced a plane to return to the New York gate and offload a steward last December because she did not like the way she had been served nuts.

Judge Oh Sung-woo said that it was a case where "human dignity" had been "trampled upon", reported BBC.

Heather Cho has apologized and quit Korean Air which is owned by her father.

Witnesses said that Cho became angry when she was served macademia nuts that she had not asked for and they were still in a bag and not in a bowl.

Judge Oh said that she treated the flight like it was her private plane.
