A futuristic helmet that fires red lasers into the scalp could help you grow back your locks in the comfort of your own home.

According to a study published in the 'Lasers in Surgery and Medicine' journal, the 'iGrow Hair Growth System' works using 51 low-level red laser and LED lights to help re-energise cells in the follicles, which encourages new, healthy hair while doubling the follicle size of existing hair, the Daily Express reported.

The study shows that the low-level laser therapy (LLLT) also slows down hair loss.

A California-based dermatologist, Dr Lorrie Klein said that iGrow takes six to eight weeks to reduce hair-loss, and within a few months hair starts looking and feeling thicker, healthier and stronger.

The dermatologist added that it takes nine months to see the maximum results.

The product, which should ideally be worn for 25 minutes at a time, looks like an old salon hairdryer, and has a built-in headphone base which enables you to connect any music, audio, TV or entertainment device.
