World number two golfer Jordan Spieth has insisted that he is buoyed by his improved performance in the second round of the John Deere Classic, a warm-up event ahead of the Open Championship.
The 21-year-old American fired a seven-under-par 64 to move within five shots of leader Justin Thomas.
Reflecting on his performance, Spieth said that he made a big step forward today, the BBC reported.
Spieth, who is eyeing a third consecutive major title at St Andrews after winning the Masters and US Open this year, insisted that although he wasn't feeling great after yesterday, shooting a solid round gives him a lot of confidence in his preparations for next week.
