Sports Minister appreciates players for winning medals in CWG 2014

Union Minister for sports Sarbananda Sonowal today congratulated Indian players for bringing medals to the nation in the XX Commonwealth games 2014 in Glasgow.

"I am happy and I extent my congratulation to all the players who have won the medals. We are expecting more medals in the forthcoming events," said Sonowal.

"Manipur is always doing well in entire northeast they have always been in the forefront in receiving those medals at the different levels of competition, that's why our honorable Prime Minister has taken a very strong step by making a provision to create a sporting environment in the region and that's why the university concept has come to the region," he added.

 

So far, Abhinav Bindra, Malaika Goel and Santoshi Matsa have won the Gold Medal in Men's 10m Air Rifle event, Silver Medal in shooting and Bronze Medal in the weightlifting event in the women's 53 kg category respectively at the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Earlier today, President Pranab Mukherjee in individual messages congratulated and wished the players further success in the future.
