The songwriter of What If, a song played with the closing credits to the BBC's tennis coverage of Murray's Wimbledon victory, is building on his musical success achieved from promoting big British sports events.

According to The Daily Express, Alistair Griffin also encapsulated the emotion of the British Open golf and last year's London Olympics and his soulful sound has graced footage from Match of The Day, The UEFA Champions League and Formula One.

The report said that the song on Murray captured the public imagination and caused a huge buzz among the biggest sports audience since the 1966 World Cup Final and viewers searched for the track to find out who had performed it.

Griffin said that he got the idea from reading an interview with Andy Murray's father which ended with his view that he did not want the player to be wondering, 'what,' after his career had ended.

The musician said that it was not just a musical exercise for him and he was there watching the events.
