Women's rights activist Jagmati Sangwan on Sunday called for a special law for maids and also demanded strict action against criketer Vinod Kambli for thrashing their maid over payment of salary.

Sangwan said that Kambli could have shown some 'sportsman spirit' and tried to settle the issue in a more decent manner.

An FIR has been registered against Kambli and his wife for allegedly beating up their maid when she asked for salary at their residence in Mumbai.

According to the police sources, Soni, had been working as a housemaid for Kambli and his wife Andrea for the past two years. Soni claimed in her complaint that she was thrashed by the couple and locked in a room for three days when she asked for salary.
