A group of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members have sought nominations for members who are in police custody for various acts of corruption.
The Colombo Page website quoted former minister T.B. Ekanayake, as saying that none of the members in custody had been proven guilty, and therefore, nominations should be given to them.
He also believes that most members in custody are electoral organisers who will be able to attract voters for the party.
Ekanayake has said that their request would be put forward to President Maithripala Sirisena, who is also the SLFP leader.
MPs Basil Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Premalal Jayasekara and Sajin Vass Gunawardena are in remand custody currently.
