Sri Lanka says it is happy with Tamil Nadu gesture to release fishermen

The Government of Sri Lanka has expressed its happiness and satisfaction over the decision taken by the Government of Tamil Nadu to release the Sri Lankan fishermen under its custody and their boats before Christmas.

In a statement released on TUeusday, Colombo, according to a Lanka Page report, noted "with satisfaction" the media reports on a communication to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O. Panneerselvam informing of the decision to release 30 Sri Lankan fishermen and 19 boats currently in the state's custody by December 22.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said the state government is prepared to release the Sri Lankan fishermen and boats under its custody before Christmas after completion of formalities and expects the Sri Lankan government to reciprocate the gesture.
