Sri Lankan government has announced a reward of a million dollar bonus to the national cricket team, provided Angelo Mathews-led team manage to win the upcoming cricket World Cup, which gets underway from February 14 in Australia and New Zealand.

Government spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said that they had decided to offer the money to be shared among the team as an incentive for them to bring the World Cup, Sport24 reported.

The island nation won the coveted trophy in the 1996 edition under the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga.

Sri Lanka has missed out on winning the prize after making it to the final twice in 2007 and 2011 editions respectively.
