Sri Lanka's new Navy Chief Admiral J.S.K. Colombage stressed on the need to fortify the fleet in order to meet post-war security requirements.
According to The Island, VA Perera, while addressing the media at the navy headquarters, said that the need to sustain capabilities remained high though Sri Lanka wasn't seeking to wage war.
He expressed elation over the chance to take over the command of the 58,000 strong service forces, after having held a series of command appointments in Colombo and key bases, the report said.
Perera, who had joined the Navy on August 23, 1978, became the fourth to command the navy since the end of the conflict in May 2009.
