Srikanth and Prannoy crash out of Japan Open SuperSeries

India's Kidambi Srikanth crashed out in the quarterfinals of the Japan Open Super Series after losing to recently-crowned world champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in Japan on Friday.

The 25-year-old went down 17-21, 17-21 to world no 2 and third seed Axelsen in a men's singles quarterfinal contest that lasted for 40 minutes.

With the loss, the boy from Guntur, was not able to clinch a third successive title, with back-to-back victories at Indonesia and Australia.

India's HS Prannoy also bowed out of the SuperSeries in straight sets.

In a battle that lasted for 45 minutes, Prannoy's opponent Shi Yugu won 15-21, 14-21 respectively.
