Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Working President M.K Stalin on Friday showed confidence over the Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar) by-election, stating that they will be ready to face the elections.
The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday ordered Tamil Nadu government to conduct the R K Nagar constituency by-poll before December 31.
Speaking to media here, Stalin said, "Whenever the date for RK Nagar by-election is announced, we will be ready to face the elections".
Earlier last month, the Madras High Court had ordered the Election Commission to hold RK Nagar Assembly constituency's election at the earliest, preferably before December 31.
While speaking at a press conference, the election commission decided to countermand the bypoll that was scheduled to take place in April this year, after evidences of rampant corrupt electoral practices and bribery emerged in the state.
The by-election in RK Nagar has become necessary after the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who represented it for two terms.
