'Star Wars' 8 scheduled for 2017 summer release

Walt Disney's chairman Bob Iger has announced two more 'Star Wars' movies which includes a sequel to 'Star Wars' 7 and a first spin- off movie based on the sci-fi series.

'Star Wars' 8, written and directed by Looper's Rian Johnson, has been scheduled to release in 2017 and first spin- off movie based on 'Star Wars' titled 'Star Wars: Rogue One' will commence shooting in summer starring Felicity Jones, Deadline.com reported.

AARP 14th Annual 'Movies For Grownup' Awards GalaRogue One's storyline is by Industrial Light and Magic's John Knoll and is one of the stand-alone spinoffs Disney and Lucasfilm have indicated will be part of the expanded 'Star Wars' universe.

 

Gareth Edwards has already been roped to direct, and Chris Weitz is handling the rewrite of Gary Whitta's original script and December 16, 2016 release date has been set aside.

There will be three 'Star Wars' films between now and 2017. JJ Abrams' 'Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens' is due out this December 18 and is the first pic in the franchise since George Lucas' 'Revenge Of The Sith' in 2005.
