Carrie Fisher (60), best known as Star Wars' Princess Leia Organa, passed away after suffering a heart attack.

Speaking on behalf of Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, family's spokesman Simon Halls announced she died Tuesday.

"It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning," reports E! Online. "She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers."

Fisher's mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, broke her silence via Facebook.

"Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter," she wrote. "I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop."

Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, December 23, when she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics removed her from the flight and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack. She later died in the hospital.

Many of Fisher's 'Star Wars' co-stars, including Anthony Daniels and Mark Hamill, took to Twitter to express their grief.
