Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday asked the Congress Party whether they are in support of the centre's decision to demonetise Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 currency notes or against it.
"First state whether you are with the decision of the government's decision to declare a war on corruption and black money or are you trying to find out excuses to cover up this. That has to be stated very clearly, then only one can have clarity," Naidu told the media.
He further said that political parties have the right to make demands during parliament session.
"The parliament is in session, there is a system, there is a business advisory committee and there is a chair, the Rajya Sabha, there is a speaker in Lok Sabha, they will consult all and take a decision. In the Rajya Sabha, the debate has already started, then how can they put conditions. In the debate, you make whatever demand you want to, you have got every right to make demands and the government has got every right to respond to whatever they think is right." he said.
Yesterday, opposition members in the Rajya Sabha sought a probe into the demonetization of 500 and 1000 rupee notes, alleging that there has been a selective leakage of the decision to benefit members of the ruling party.
BSP chief Mayawati charged the government with announcing the scheme without any preparation and opening the floodgates of hardship for the people. She also alleged that the government is trying to divert attention of the nation from its unfulfilled promise.
